I-90 Exit 61 to 67 Corridor Study

Study Goals:
Complete a list of transportation issues and needs facing the I-90 corridor within the designated limits.
Develop feasible solutions to address those issues and needs that meet current design standards and/or traffic level of service expectations under both the current and predicted future traffic conditions while promoting a livable community that will enhance the economic and social well-being of all users of the corridor.

Need for the Project:
I-90 Capacity
Need: Inadequate capacity on I-90 to accommodate future travel demand.
Support: Long-range traffic projections and analysis suggest an additional travel lane is needed on I-90 between Exit 61 and Exit 67.

Interchange Access
Need: Exit 63 interchange does not meet current FHWA policy on interstate access.
Support: Exit 63 is currently a partial movement interchange with ramps only to and from the west. FHWA’s publication
“Interstate System Access Information Guide” states that partial interchanges do not meet driver expectations. Drivers have the expectation that when they exit the interchanges, they will be able to enter again, either to continue their journey in the same direction or make the return trip. Partial interchanges affect regional travel by forcing drivers to travel out-of-direction and eliminate the opportunity to use alternate corridors to maintain traffic operations during construction, traffic incidents, special events, or emergencies.
